Message from the Principal

Welcome parents and guardians to the 2017-2018 school year. The Preston Elementary staff and I welcome you to a new school year full of exciting instructional opportunities for you and your students. This school year, the staff and I will continue to provide every student access to high-quality Common Core instruction which infuses daily AVID strategies to engage and support all learners. Daily instruction in every class will include grade level reading in all core areas including math, science, and social studies. In other words, students will spend a significant amount of time building their reading capacity and developing higher-level reading strategies. Please develop a daily reading routine with your student to support and develop a love for reading at home.

This year the staff and I have planned a multitude of family engagement activities to support all families and their students as we work to build college ready and college bound students. This school year, you will observe an increase in school communication as we all work to serve you and your students as a member of the Preston Elementary School family. Should you have any questions or concerns regarding your student's progress during the school year, please make immediate contact with the school to fully support your student's progress and growth.

Preston Elementary - An AVID Elementary School!

Students enrolled at Preston Elementary School have daily access to AVID instructional strategies which prepare them for higher level thinking, writing, reading, and organizational skills. In class, AVID strategies promote College Readiness at the earliest stages of learning. Before students leave Preston Elementary School, they will develop a strong foundation in AVID strategies which will prepare them for enrollment in future AVID programs in middle and high school.

AVID Elementary takes a systemic approach through Beginnings, Foundations, and Bridges implementation resources for different levels and settings in order to support all students on their journey to college readiness.

AVID Elementary Essentials

AVID Elementary sites incorporate rigorous, relevant, differentiated opportunities for all students in an environment which promotes college readiness.

PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention Support)

Preston Elementary School uses PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention Support) to monitor and support all students on campus. Through the PBIS program. Staff Members continuously review and analyze the actions and behaviors of all students on campus to ensure a safe campus for all students. During the instructional day, students are reminded of school-wide expectations and classroom norms to provide the best instructional setting during the instructional day. PBIS provides restorative justice opportunities for students and decreases off-campus suspensions.
